Eldon Gerard Mabie passed away on Saturday, June 20th in Freedom at the age of 92. Born in Redwood City, he lived in the Watsonville area for 59 years and worked for Bank of America until 1963. He completed his career as a realtor in Watsonville, focusing on the retirement community. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, where he met Eleanor, his wife of over 50 years. She passed away in 1996. He liked hunting, fishing, woodworking, traveling and spending time with his family. He was a Blue Knight volunteer at Watsonville Community Hospital and volunteer driver for the Volunteer Bureau, an early member of the Watsonville Rod and Gun club, Member of Watsonville/Santa Cruz sons in retirement (SIRS), Watsonville Elks, Gideon’s and Masonic Lodge. He was also a supporter of the Salvation Army and served on the Watsonville Board of Realtors.
Mr. Mabie is survived by two sons, Ken(Julie) Mabie – Aptos and Jerry Mabie – San Jose; daughter Julie(Earl) Mabie-Marcellus – Leavenworth, WA; sister Joan Joesten – Yreka; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A Memorial Service will be held on July 12, 2009 at 2 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Watsonville on Fifth and Lincoln.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066. Salvation Army, 112 Grant Ave., Watsonville, Watsonville Rod& Gun Club on Lakeview Road or the First Baptist Church of Watsonville.
Davis Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with cremation arrangements.
